Regular fasting - helps physically & mentally

Ignore the title of the article in the paper clipping below. Read on.....It all explains what i mean to say.

It reveals that fasting should be taken up only when your body and mind are in sync. Its also acts as an excersize to keep both the mind and body in sync. Without which, it would be a problem creation for your body rather than bettering it. Make a resolution and determine and stand by it.

Immortals of Meluha - Makes it to Cinema house

Immortals of Meluha by Amish Tripathi - The first book from the Shiva's trilogy is an super hit and is heading the best seller list since some time.

Yesterday i read in Film Fare book that, Karan johar has adapted the series to make it to films. Wow! What an idea!!! Waiting eagerly to see the star cast. The initial reports says that Hritik Roshan is the choice for Shiva and Priyanka Chopra or Vidya Balan are being considered for Sati. Bowled by muscled warrior looks from Jodha akbar, Hritik is obvious & perfect choice for Shiva. Period. And Vidya would be my choice for Sati.

But karan is not correct for directing such a a film. He can't really do such films. These series of films certainly need a producer with good taste and capability to withstand such a huge budget. Karan can be a very good producer.

Having read and loved the book and the next book in the series i.e. Secrets of Nagas, i'm super excited to see how this film will be made. The grandeur of the kingdom of meluha and the war scenes described are awesome. If they are made as-is, wow...it would be a treat to watch and simply superb. But the point is, how the director squeeze the entire book into a 2.5 to 3 hrs movie? Really excited.

The shiva character is so intense and is cleanly scripted down. Have to see how Hritik Roshan can carry out the role shiva. His muscle body fits to it. No doubt. But its the director who can make a huge difference to the movie. If not directed properly this could end as a dud like the "Hello" which is based on One Night @ Call Center. Man! I eagerly wait for this movie to hit the floors and release at the earliest.

Competency improvement - Taking the right direction.

Once upon a time there used to be a company ABC Inc. In the ABC Inc. there used to be a Team "A". Team A and mates were a fantastic mix and match of different competencies and skill sets. They used to handle a project call ESS.

In one sprint all the user stories are completely related to C programming. None of the team mates have the competency in C , and so, being the only member with knowledege on C, Mr. Nith was asked to take the ownership. He instantly accepted the given challenge. The sprint went on well and was a sucess. All is well.

Now came the next sprint. This sprint also deals with C programming. This is mostly related to the last sprint work but in a different module kind of thing. Now, what should the team leader do? Should he again assign the task to Mr. Nith or split up the work among other members who are new to C programming so that they can improve in that area too?

It would be sensible to split up the task among other team members so that they too can develop the skill. Mr. Nith is always handy so that he can be used in case of emergency or in case of urgent deliverables.

This is missed with most of the team leaders. The reason is due to lack of knowledge and experience about how to handle a team and how to provide the scope of learning in the team. This way, the team members would be less bored(due to same type of non-challenging works) and also learn new things.

In my opinion, a Team Leader has to remember few things,

1. To cut-off the dependencies on individuals as much as possible.
2. Provide or should i say, Creating scope for learning to all the team members.
3. Sharing the proper and right information with team members at the right time.
4. Developing rapport among the team members. This can be achieved by simple shuffling of the work responsibilities.
5. Encouragement to try and explore different things in the work. This can be technologies, concepts etc.
6. And more importantly, Creating a friendly environment in the team.
7. Let them speak up their ideas and thoughts.
8. Appreciate where & when ever required.

Then why do you buy a car?

Recently one of my neighbor in my apartment has bought a used car. Its a Santro. Its a petrol car. Just looking at it, it looks good and decently driven by its previous owner. When enquired, my  neighbor bought it for some 2.4lakhs ransom. But i have hardly seen him using the car. No miscellaneous rides. No regular usage. He doesn't use it for his daily office commuting either. He doesn't use his car even if he goes out with him family. I wonder when does he use the car. I know the pain of maintaining a petrol car. Every time you go to fuel station to refuel, your heart pinches...Rs.75 per liter. The mileage being hardly 15Kms in city(if driven light footed), its Rs.5 per kilometer. Yes it hurts so much.

Last couple of weekends, i notice him cleaning and dusting the car. I thought he should be going out with his family. But no. He takes out the car from parking. Just go for a ride and spin the wheels. Comes back. Park the car and go home. Pathetic situation. He is worried of the petrol price so much that, he uses his bike always. Car sits there just for a status symbol or some false prestige. Arey, if you can't afford to maintain a petrol car due to high fuel prices, then why do you buy one? Living in India, you know well that since October 2010, the petrol prices have been revised 6-7 times after deregulation of petrol by central government.

Every time i see him using his bike, i feel like asking...Why did you buy a petrol car when you cant afford to maintain it? That's pretty senseless.
