Well, what is all that new? Read on.
The Facelifted Maruti Dzire has been launched in India in the last month. The pricing is set right in the expected brackets. What car is it?
Hatchback? Sedan? Luxury? -- Compact Sedan :)
As already known, old Swift Dzire is a old Swift with boot attached, everything else remaining the same. Does this hold true for the facelifted Dzire too? Hmm well almost.
Firstly Maruti introduced 2011 Swift with well improved interiors and fixed rattling & durability issues over the old swift. It was an instant hit due to the brand the old swift had built over the years. The waiting period still ranges from 2-6 months depending on the city you live in.
Then came the Facelifted Maruti Dzire 2012. Whats new? The same Swift with boot. The 2011 swift strategically almost doesn't have any bootspace and this 2012 Dzire has boot of 315ltrs. This space is 148ltrs smaller than the outgoing Dzire. Even the hatchback Honda Jazz has 384ltrs bootspace. And adding to this reduction of bootspace, no folding rear seat either. This means, you almost can't use the 2012 Dzire for your airport runs or long trips. Its best suit for just a weekend trip. A serious limitation.
When the 2011 Swift was introduced i wondered by the uncanny decision of Maruti to provide so limited bootspace. But now, i understand that the move was deliberate to Cannibalise and make room for 2012 Dzire sales. So, anyone who want some practical boot should opt for Dzire over Swift.
So, precisely a 2012 Dzire wins over New Swift for,
1. 318Ltrs bootspace.
2. Beige interiors for airy look & feel.
3. A feel of Sedan...Oops Compact Sedan.
Lets now see how it fares in this tough market.

Can you see the similarity with the Swift DNA?
The new rear design of Dzire. Maruti didn't miss the long chrome strip though.
The new Dzire falls into sub 4 meter cars division with 3995mm of length. The length is reduced to grab discount of 10% excise duty on cars that are <4 meters in length. I wonder how people call it a sedan now. Oh and thats why its being termed as compact sedan...dats funny. Even the Fiat Punto and VW Polo are shorter in length with 8mm and 25mm respectively. But these are called hatchback. I wonder why?
Incontrary, compared to the outgoing Dzire, the 2012 Dzire has improved lot much in the interiors, fitting, ergnomics, fuel efficiency. The beige interiors give an airy feel to the cabin space, the soft cushioning of seats and backrest are perfect for long journeys. The parts and plastic looks more durable now though it still lacks to give the premium feel. Do you love faux wood finish in cars? Find some in here. The dashboard console & rear lights is all new refreshing and certainly inspired from kizashi. Very informative new instrument cluster. Ride quality remains same stable(though Swift is fun to drive) and DDis engine does its regular job. The bootlid, bonnet metal sheets are wafer thin.
